After almost a full year of programming using HTML, Python, Javascript, and block coding the sixth grade took their knowledge of all things computer science and created projects guided by their own interests. Students submitted a project proposal, and once approved, hit the ground running. Projects ranged from animation, video game creation, to movie making. One project was so impressive it is worth highlighting here. Gigi wrote, directed, edited and starred in a twenty minute film based on “Lynira, a young girl, living in hiding because her father is said to know where the heart of the world is, and the thing itself is shrouded in mystery.” Read Gigi’s full plot summary below.
“Lynira is about a young girl, living in hiding because her father is said to know where the heart of the world is, and the thing itself is shrouded in mystery. And on top of that, Lynira’s curiosity spikes when she hears that her mother, who she has never known, had held information about this treasured object. But when Lynira finds a trail of clues left by her mother years ago, she suspects that her mother was a sorceress. Lynira sets out to find where her mother is, braving the unknown. However, an evil sorceress named Maladextra seeks her out, and Lynira fears for her future that this sorceress could be her mother. At last, she finds out that her mother is a good sorceress named Adella, and the two go on a quest to find the heart and soul of the world. They find that the sacred heart and soul of the world is a dog named Maximus, but Maladextra tricks Adella into leaving Lynira alone, and attacks her and the heart and soul. Lynira battles her, and turns her sword into a mirror to rebound the curse. Maladextra’s powers leave her, and she runs off. Lynira brings her parents back together and gets her own sorceress powers.”
