Our second grade students have been working extremely hard in Science. Recently, we have been learning about forces and factors that affect motion. In order to gain hands-on experience, we put on our engineering hats and built our own wheel and axle systems. Students explored how the starting position, wheel shape and size as well as other factors can affect the motion of wheels/systems. To cap off the week, we held a competition. We applied all that we learned over the past two weeks and raced our cars. They attempted to see who could get their wheel and axle system to roll the fastest as well as the farthest.
