Second Grade

This week, second graders finished reading Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar. It's a novel about a school built sideways and the silliest students go to school there! During weekly literacy centers students read in small groups engaging in characters and plot. Developing vocabulary, building stamina, improving fluency and comprehension were all key elements of study. As a final project, each student picked a character from the book, wrote a riddle and created a paper doll. Lastly, we all shared our riddles with the class and made guesses. Reading together as a class has helped build community and nurture the love of reading.
