Third grade students began the school year learning about French artist Jean Philippe Dubuffet. He was a true innovator, experimenting with unusual tools and materials to create prints that were full of texture, unique shapes and dimension. Inspired by his rebellious approach to printmaking and creation, our students created pieces like the one pictured below of an abstract person mixing paper thickness to add interest to their work.
Recently, our third graders learned about American minimalist artist Frank Stella. A pioneer in the minimalist movement, Stella focused on abstract representations using repeating shapes and precise lines. Our students created circle collage art pieces in his style. Starting the process by reviewing the color wheel to select colors that would interact with each other in order to create a mood: calm or energetic.
We look forward to being inspired by more important artists around the world.
