When kids talk well about books, the conversations can be invigorating, engaging, and enlightening. In small groups, the students are learning how to engage in meaningful conversations with their peers. Through these discussions they are learning about the development of characters, plot, setting, and theme in the books that we are reading. As they read, students are making connections with the characters, making predictions, and focusing on the literal and inferential components of the story. Book club reading allows readers to have more intimate conversations with their peers.
