Thursday was St. Patrick’s Day, which has been celebrated since the 10th century! To celebrate, our Kindergartners read stories about leprechauns and learned about rainbows. Each student engineered their own leprechaun trap at school. This was done with the hope to catch our classroom leprechaun, Larry, who has been roaming the classroom and playing pranks this past week. The traps were solely designed and created by the students, who shared enthusiastically how their trap would work, to whomever would listen. They wrote rainbow poetry, painted rainbows, and conducted color experiments with skittles. After reading "The Day the Crayons Quit" by Oliver Jeffers, they practiced their debating skills by deliberating as a class as to which color was the most important in the rainbow. The children also continued the tradition of St. Patrick’s day by learning a little about the country of Ireland, and even dancing the popular Irish dance, the “Irish Jig.” We have some great dancers in the class! Sadly, we did not manage to catch Larry the Leprechaun, but we certainly had a lot of fun trying!
