Our fourth graders became “Jane” yesterday on a field trip to the Museum of Natural History! The traveling exhibit made its west coast debut tracing the career of legendary scientist and conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall. The exhibit covered her childhood in the U.K. to her years in Africa studying chimpanzees (including a breakthrough discovery of their use of tools) to her current role as an activist and advocate. After a month-long deep novel study of Jane’s life and present day work, the students were well versed in all things “Dr. Goodall.” They explored the interactive, hands on, immersive exhibition complete with a hologram-like Goodall. In addition, the students completed a museum scavenger hunt, visited the blooming rose garden, and with our first field trip in 3 years the students were giddy to ride the bus to and from school!
