The third grade has been learning about fractions in math. This week, to culminate our study of fractions, we created our own recipes for trail mix. Recipes use many fractions to measure ingredients. We discussed how different measuring cups can be used in combination to create one whole cup. We compared measuring cups in size order. We looked at equivalent fractions, and how different sized measuring cups can be used to create them. We then created our own recipes for one cup of trail mix which we got to enjoy. Using recipes was a fun and hands-on way to see how fractions can be used in our daily lives.
