We have a lot happening in the library! We have spent the last few weeks celebrating poetry. In kindergarten and first grade we read aloud picture books which told stories through haiku poems. In second grade, we shared a novel written in verse and students read aloud poems written for two and three voices. In the upper grades, students had an opportunity to try their hand at a variety of poetry themed stations and games, including writing magnetic word poems; the dice game Haikubes, where players create haiku poems with the roll of the dice from the words and phrases printed on the sides of the dice; and Paint Chip Poetry where burgeoning poets create poems based on a theme card and paint chip color names drawn from a 400 card deck. The sixth graders even created poems using the titles printed on the spines of books to write “spine” poems that we displayed in the library.
We are also getting ready for Bookfair which will be happening May 23-27. We are so excited to have an in-person book fair this year! It will be a bit different from years past. Please watch your inbox for more detailed information coming your way next week.
You may have also noticed overdue notices going home in droves. All books are due back to the library on Friday, May 20 so that we can begin preparation for the library’s end of the year inventory. It has been so lovely to be back in our library space sharing stories and checking out books! Thank you all for a wonderful year!
