Fourth Grade

During the month of May, we focused on customary and metric measurements in math. There are so many measurements to remember! How many pints in a quart? How many inches in a yard? How many millimeters are in a centimeter? We learned a bit of the history behind customary measurements. Did you know that only three countries, including the United States, do not use the metric system as the official system of measurement? The fourth graders know! In order to put these different measurements into perspective, the kids created measurement picture books. The kids choose their own themes for the picture books, ranging from their favorite books, sports, movies, etc. These picture books made reference to both customary and metric units of mass, weight, and length related to their themes. The kids enjoyed thinking of ways to tie in the different measurements to their themes. Their creativity really shined through in this project!
