The best start to this new school year and new music classes is that we get to sing! In conjunction with our ongoing activities revolving around basic elements of music theory such as beat, rhythm and creating music in a group, we are now able to use everyone’s first instrument: their voices! Singing a beat passing game or learning the melody prior to playing it on a recorder adds a new layer of musicality for our young musicians. Fifth graders are exploring melody and chordal combinations on the barred instruments while sixth grade extends their ukulele studies learning to accompany themselves as they sing. It truly is music to one’s ears!
