Our fifth graders have been writing personal narratives this trimester as part of the Writers Workshop curriculum taught throughout the school. Each year students learn new crafts to strengthen their writing skills, this year they are putting a different spin on narrative writing. After publishing their personal narrative pieces, the fifth graders moved to narrative pieces based on one of the characters they read about in their summer readings. They gathered important information and created an outline for the character of their choice. They will begin drafting their pieces by adding details on how the character felt during an important event in the character's life. In a way, they will become that character and put themselves “in their shoes." Stay tuned for publishing day!
