Debate

This past weekend, after several weeks of hard work and preparation, our Crestview debate team competed in its first tournament of the year, held at the Wise School. Debaters Quinnie, Ridley and Colin, led the way, going undefeated for the day and placing 2nd as a team. Mannath placed 6th and Ridley placed 15th, individually, in a field of about 120 debaters.

The tournament featured 8 schools from all over the Los Angeles area. Over the course of four rounds, each of our debaters successfully argued either side of three topics: The Olympic games do more good than harm, Schools should eliminate letter grades, and Zoos do more good than harm.

The highlights of the day, however, did not come at the podium, but rather in the spaces of challenge after a loss, or the show of humility after an exhilarating win. Throughout the tournament, our debaters represented themselves and Crestview admirably.

Crestview competes in the Golden West Debate League, our next tournament will be held at the Curtis School on February 3, 2024. Come out and show your support!
