We have been exploring melody in kindergarten through third grade using both instruments and voice. Third grade students are excited to be playing the recorder. They started by learning how to play with beautiful tones and are now working on reading music and ear training, which involves listening to patterns of notes and replicating what they hear. Kindergarten, first, and second grade students have been playing the xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels and have begun to explore improvisation. All grades are now starting to prepare for our End of Year Concert. Learning new songs allows for opportunities to work on matching pitch and to learn about song form, dynamics, enunciation, and musical signs, such as repeats and codas. Kindergarten is excited to show you what they’ve learned about crescendo in one of their concert songs. Be sure to “Spring Forward” with us by saving the date for the End of Year Concert on Monday, May 20.
