In first grade, we spent our last unit of study learning all about our solar system. Students completed reading comprehension packets studying each planet, our moon, and the sun. They also completed creative writing pieces based on the prompt, "If I Were an Astronaut," in which they imagined what space travel might be like and where in the universe they would want to go. We even found our space-filled dreams carry over into our math unit about 2-D and 3-D shapes. Students created geometric space scenes and, of course, rockets! Our space exploration also took us on a field trip to JPL, and it culminated with open-ended space projects that students featured at Open House.
