As part of our data and graphing unit, students engaged in a hands-on, project-based learning experience designed with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. This approach not only made the learning process engaging and accessible for all students but also encouraged their unique perspectives and interests.
For this project, each student chose a question they were genuinely curious about and for which they wanted to gather data. They then visited other classrooms to survey students, collecting responses on their topics via tally tables and converting those to frequency charts. Using this data, students created a series of bar graphs, picture graphs, and line plots to represent their findings visually. They took the project a step further by creating custom covers for their data books using Google Slides, crafting questions about their graphs, and recording audio answers, which were then converted into QR codes to make their work interactive.
This project allowed students to practice important math skills while fostering confidence and collaboration. Their enthusiasm was inspiring, and we are so proud of the incredible work they produced!
