Crestview Students Receive Top Honors at Debate Tournament

This past weekend our Crestview debate team competed in its first tournament of the year at the Wise School. The tournament featured 9 schools and over 120 argumentative debaters! Whether any given round ended in defeat or victory, each Crestview debater represented themselves admirably on the day, always in support of each other and with respect for their opponents. As senior member Ethan K. put it, “It was a challenging day, but the Crestview team as a whole tried their very best, especially the new debaters.”

As a school, Crestview won 50% of its rounds while also earning team and individual accolades. Leading the way was the team of Colin K., Karl V., and Eliana W., who finished 7th as a team. Individual speaker awards were also earned by Ethan K.(30th), Eliana W.(26th), Colin K.(2nd), and Ellis L. who won the esteemed “Gavel” for top individual speaker of the tournament.

The team returned to practice this week in a typical fashion. While Coach Wolfe wanted to have a lighthearted recap of their first tournament, the debaters wanted to talk strategy and look ahead to their next competition slated for early March. Predictably, an argument ensued.
